Nissan Key Types We Replace — From Transponders to Smart Keys
Not every Nissan key is the same, and the replacement process varies significantly depending on what you drive and when it was made. Older Nissan models used a simple metal-cut key with no electronics. From the mid-1990s onward, Nissan began embedding transponder chips in the key head — without programming that chip to match your vehicle's immobilizer, a freshly cut key will turn the ignition but the engine will not start. Rogue and Altima models from the mid-2000s and newer frequently use remote head keys that combine a physical blade with an integrated fob for lock and unlock functions. More recent trims on the Murano, Maxima, and Altima feature Nissan's Intelligent Key system — a proximity-based smart key that allows push-button start without inserting anything into the ignition.
Our mobile technicians carry the diagnostic and programming hardware needed to work with all of these formats. We cut the blade to your vehicle's specific code, then program the transponder or smart key to communicate with your car's ECU. The result is a fully functional replacement key made on-site — no towing to a dealer, no waiting several business days for a part to be ordered. We also program replacement fobs separately if your physical key still works but your remote has stopped responding.
